Interwoven : Marise Rarere
drawings in ink
My memories of learning to weave with muka (the fine creamy strands from within the flax) twenty years ago with my then tutor Rama Kete inspired these simple but intricate drawings. I have translated this experience into pen ink drawings. They are slow mediations…like weaving, they are surprisingly revealing.
This exhibition includes original drawings and limited edition digital prints, some of which I have handcoloured with watercolour. The brush ink drawings contrast the more considered approach of the woven drawings. The cast glass ketes expand the theme some more.
